Rockstar Games alumni Dan Houser originally announced his new studio called “Absurd Ventures” in the summer of 2023, touting the flagship satire and sarcasm that GTA fans have come to know and love. Now, a new job posting has revealed Absurd Ventures’ new game, described as an “open world action-adventure game” with third person action.

The job posting can be found on the company’s official website and is for a Lead Gameplay Designer position. It was first spotted by deadasdisco on the GTAForums website. The opening paragraph reads as follows:

Become the primary vision holder and hands-on contributor for character, controls, and camera design in an open world action-adventure game. The person in this role will lead a team of multi-disciplinary specialists to deliver best-in-class combat and third person action across multiple game modes.”

There are also a handful of responsibilities listed on the job posting that give more insight into what the project involves:

  • Drive the design and implementation of all moment-to-moment player-feel gameplay in alignment with direction from a senior leadership team.
  • Establish a gameplay vision that serves the player fantasies and creative direction, then evangelize that vision to the broader team.
  • Lead designers, engineers, animators, artists, and external co-dev partners to deliver playable progress at regular intervals as part of a rapid iterative process.
  • Incorporate feedback from peers, playtests, and senior leadership to refine and pivot as the game demands.
  • Go beyond documentation and management to lead from the trenches, with hands-on contributions to the playable experience.
  • Establish metrics and best practices for environment and encounter design to support optimal gameplay.

Given the pedigree of the industry veterans working at Absurd Ventures, it’s likely that this game will be somewhat reminiscent of a GTA experience. Given the open world action-adventure description, it seems especially plausible. We imagine we’ll hear something regarding this new title sometime in the next couple years.
