With yesterday’s big reveal of Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, it seems more info regarding the game has come to light. For starters, we now know that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Director Lead Game Designer Masaru Yamamura is the one helming the project.

This info was spotted on the game’s Steam page that now offers more news on the game’s story as well. In it, it mentions that the development team working on Armored Core 6 was initially started Hidetaka Miyazaki (director of Elden Ring), but since then, Yamamura has taken over as Director.

Development Team
Hidetaka Miyazaki will be involved as the Initial Game Director. Based on the initial development, Masaru Yamamura has taken over as Director.

In addition to that, the game’s story overview sheds more light on the upcoming action game as well.

Story Overview
A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, this substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.

Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe.

Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.

For reference, the last Armored Core game released, which was Armored Core 5 released back in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, was directed by Naoyuki Takahashi.

Take a look at new official screenshots as well:

According to the game’s Steam page, Armored Core 6 will feature “dynamic, fast-paced mech action.” In the game, players will pilot their ow mech with 3D maneuverability and take on “difficult challenges” that can be overcome with dynamic movements, ranged and melee combat. Yep, sounds like an Armored Core game, alright.

Armored Core 6 is set for launch sometime in 2023 on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Update: Post has been updated to amend that Yamamura was Lead Game Designer on Sekiro and not the director. (Thanks, NextGenPlayer!)
