Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC or Baldur’s Gate 4 Not Happening; Larian Moving on From D&D

Baldur's Gate 3 DLC

After the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, one might assume that a sequel would be in development as we speak. Well, people probably assumed wrong, as not only are we NOT getting any Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC, but don’t expect a direct sequel (Baldur’s Gate 4) to be released by Larian Studios.

At a Game Developers Conference (GDC) panel, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke mentioned that the studio has no plan s to release any expansions or DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, or to even make a sequel for it. Not only that, but Vincke also mentioned that they are moving away from the D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) media property entirely to do something new.

This is quite surprising given how successful Baldur’s Gate 3 has become for Larian. If you’re one of the many that assumed Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC was on the way, well, this just dashed your hopes.

While no post-release story DLC is incoming, Larian Studios has been very busy releasing patch after patch for the hit RPG. This is not only to fix bugs, but to even add in new features, and in some cases, to add a better closure to the game’s final act.

No word yet on just what Larian Studios’ next project is, but don’t be surprised if it’s another entry in their Divinity series of RPGs.

As for the Baldur’s Gate franchise, it’s entirely in Wizards of the Coast’s hands right now. It’s unknown whether Hasbro (parent company of Wizards of the Coast) will look for another developer to takeover for Baldur’s Gate 4. If so, they have very, very big shoes to fill.

If you still haven’t played it yet, go read our review to understand why it has gotten so many accolades. Our reviewer was so in awe playing it and mentioned, “you can only purchase a single game for a couple of years because budget is tight, Baldur’s Gate 3 should be the one. The amount of content and the sheer quality in display almost makes it feel like a steal, a game that grows on you and eats the hours away, invading your dreams and making you count the time until you return to it.”
