CD Projekt RED: Cyberpunk 2077 Unused Content Is “Unused For a Reason,” Cites Quality “Not There”

Cyberpunk 2077, like many other games, contains a variety of content for players to explore and try out, with one of the major features involving quests that will lead to interesting storylines and in-game rewards. For large-scale games such as Cyberpunk, however, there will usually be quite a bit of cut or unused content, and Cyberpunk 2077’s unused content is “unused for a reason,” according to one of the devs at CD Projekt Red.

Paweł Sasko, CD Projekt Red’s quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077, revealed in a recent livestream his work as a designer and how he influences what sort of content makes the final cut.

One important point I wanted to make here, whatever unused content there is and you want to make material about it, always unused content is used [for] a reason, you know. And I always try to explain it to the players but also to the press that when you’re actually making a game, your responsibility as a designer is to actually make all of those calls about what actually gets into your game, you know, that is your responsibility. And when stuff is weak and just the quality is not there, and sometimes just you will look at the idea and the potential of the idea is not there. You can see that there’s no way you can bring it up to, you know, let’s say, nine out of ten quests, or locations, or gameplay feature[s].

Sasko also stressed that “We normally want to make our games as rich and as deep as we can for you,” with the goal of providing “the best possible game” that the developers have. While chatters in the livestream asked about any new content for Cyberpunk 2077, Sakso was tight-lipped, mentioning he had “no knowledge about new content” from other departments.

As for what’s coming next, CDPR is set to drop info on Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming DLC “Phantom Liberty” this June/

Is this guy joking? Look at the state the game released in and how many years it’s still taking to fix it and then tell me about his new found concern for quality. CDPR are clowns.
