Microsoft’s $68.7 billion USD acquisition of Activision Blizzard is seeing some serious scrutiny by regulators in the UK (CMA). Just recently, Microsoft published a complete response to CMA’s Phase 1 investigation, calling it unwarranted and suggesting that the CMA was biased towards Sony.

The latest update in this drama is that the CMA has opened a public call for evidence regarding the acquisition. The regulator says “At this point we invite anyone, including members of the public, to share their views with us,” suggesting that they will take public opinion into consideration.

In the current investigation phase, the CMA will hold hearings with Microsoft and Activision about its findings. CMA also says “If we think the merger could have a negative impact on competition, we also start thinking about potential solutions to those concerns.”

After the governing body has evaluated all the evidence, it will finally publish its provisional decision about the purchase for the public. Then, everyone, including the public, can give their opinion on CMA’s provisional decision. The governing body will keep the public’s opinion in mind before making the final decision on the acquisition.
