Destiny 2 Name Change Bug Guardian #0000 Affecting Logins This Aug. 2024; Bungie Issues Statement
For those who have trouble logging into Destiny 2 or are being asked to change their name, you’re not the only one. It seems this problem is affecting a ton of players this August 2024, and we have some good news and bad news. Most gamers might see the Guardian #0000 error code pop up, and this is in reference to this.
Destiny 2 Name Change Bug (Guardian #0000) – What’s Happening?
It looks like players are being forced to change their Destiny 2 Bungie names, which in turn prevent them from logging into the game. Over on the game’s subreddit, Bungie has issued a statement about it. The good news is, the studio fixed it so that players won’t get affected moving forward. However, those affected, it seems you’re screwed for the time being.
We have identified the issue that was forcing a high number of Bungie name changes. We have applied a server-side change to prevent the issue from impacting accounts moving forward.
We are continuing to investigate options to address player accounts that were impacted. This will take some time as our path forward will be dependent on fixing the underlying issue.
As noted yesterday, we are still planning to distribute name change tokens to all players at a later date to assist.
As we have more information, we’ll be sure to share it with you.
Will this require a client-side patch to fix? We wouldn’t be surprised to see one if so. Speaking of patches, update 8.0.5.1 was released the other day, which seems to somehow tie into this entire situation?
If you found a workaround, leave a comment below and let us know.
