The original Final Fantasy 7 had a slew of minigames that players could waste time on, and for better or for worse, the developers at Square Enix included them in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy.

For those hoping for fewer minigames in Final Fantasy 7: Revelation, who prefer to skip these entirely, or are annoyed how the minigames’ rewards are tied to combat, we have good news to share about it.

Speaking about the development of Final Fantasy 7: Revelation, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, explained that they included a lot of minigames in the new trilogy, so it’ll be faithful to the original source material.

Final Fantasy 7: Revelation Will Feature a Better Way of Tackling Minigames

In an interview in the latest issue of Game Informer (#380), Hamaguchi was asked about one of FF7 Rebirth’s “big talking points,” which were the minigames, and whether it’d be the same for Revelation as well.

Hamaguchi explained, “One of the identifying aspects of FFVII is the abundance of minigames and side content, so if I weren’t to stay true to that, I don’t think I would be able to call this a faithful remake that stays true to the original. So, yes, we are going to have a lot of minigames and a lot of side content”

Having said that, there is good news, as the game director also mentioned they are aware of the feedback from gamers about it, stating, “With that being said, we’re very mindful of the feedback we received for FFVII Rebirth, so we did make a lot of adjustments so that fans can play the minigames and side content sections a lot more smoothly. There will be difficulty settings implemented into the minigames now, and if players feel that it’s not their cup of tea, they have the option to just skip the minigame section, too. And also, most of the rewards are not going to be tied to combat items, either, to give them a feeling of ease.”

This is definitely good news for those planning to cap off the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, and aren’t really fans of the minigames in the first two entries. Do you think FF7 Rebirth had too many minigames? Are you glad combat items aren’t tied to them too? Sound off and let us know.

Final Fantasy 7: Revelation’s description from Square Enix mentions:

“A meteor mars the sky, monstrous planetary guardians wreak havoc across the globe, and the fires of war rage. Now, Cloud and his companions must stand against this chaos to not only decide the planet’s fate, but bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion.

In the final chapter of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project, the scale has never been larger and the stakes have never been higher. Take to the skies and explore a boundless world, fight alongside a fully assembled party, master strategic and dynamic combat, and prepare yourself for the climactic finale.

A vast planet awaits. Everything leads here.”

Final Fantasy 7: Revelation is due for release sometime in 2027 simultaneously for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
