God of War Ragnarok Will Require a Minimum of Two Playthroughs in Order to Experience Everything

If you’re looking to get the most out of God of War Ragnarok, you may be happy to know that the game gives you a reason to playthrough again.

(Spoiler Warning – This article may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk. I’ll keep things as vague as possible, but I suggest you read this after beating the game at least once).

So, you’ve finally reached the fork in the road where the game is urging you to go out and complete any unfinished business before you take on the final mission. You may wonder, will you be locked out of side missions if you don’t?

The short answer is no. Every collectible, realm, and side mission is all accessible post-game. This was my approach, and I still managed to platinum and 100% complete God of War Ragnarok. However, if you’re interested in experiencing everything the game offers, you’ll need to play through the game at least twice.

Why? All the side missions appear to offer different lines of dialogue, reflecting whether or not you’ve beaten the game. This includes missions from the very start of the game that you may have decided to ignore.

While their objectives are identical before and after beating the game, the dialogue spoken between each character is different. During my completed campaign run, I decided to do a side mission I was holding off until I reached a higher level. Upon returning to it, Kratos gave us a bit of an explanation as to why he wanted to do this quest.

During my second playthrough, I decided to get this set of missions out of the way. To my surprise, Kratos had a very different response through the entire side mission. There was new dialogue, as Kratos didn’t want to open up. Emotionally, the mission was different than it had been when I first played it.

Again, objectively they were the same. Story-wise? They were a bit different, with one alternative even offering more lore to go with the world building.  It’s not just the side missions either, as there is different dialogue for going through specific locations depending on whether you beat the game.

I’m not sure how deep these changes go, but nonetheless that should give you a good reason to playthrough again, or revisit the game down the road once the inevitable New Game Plus mode gets added.
