God of War TV Series Is Being Developed at Amazon Studios

God of War Series

God of War‘s success story only continues with a recent announcement that the franchise will be getting a TV series on Amazon. The project will have Rafe Judkins as the showrunner, who was responsible for shows such as “The Wheel of Time.”

Here’s a quote from Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, on the God of War TV series.

We are honored to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio.

The God of War series has been in the works since way back in March, and it will follow the story of the 2018 game, with a young Atreus accompanying him to spread his mother’s ashes as her final wish. Things get complicated along the way, however, and the journey will test both Kratos and Atreus as they attempt to reach the highest peak.

God of War isn’t the first high-profile video game to get a series adaptation. Multiple games have had this sort of treatment in the past, such as Dota 2 and Halo. While the success of video game adaptations can be hit-or-miss, recent shows such as the Castlevania Series and Arcane have pushed the subgenre to new heights.

Along with the newly announced series adaptation for The Last of Us, which will air in January 2023, it looks like we’re going to be treated to some well-written adaptations in the near future.
