Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator & Rev 2 Getting Rollback Netcode in October Beta Test

Arc System Works has announced that two entries in the Guilty Gear Xrd sub-series (-Revelator- and Rev 2) will be implementing rollback netcode starting with a public beta test on Steam in late October.

This announcement came alongside a gorgeous trailer showcasing what rollback will look like in the games:

For those unaware, rollback netcode is a form of game networking most commonly seen in newer fighting games that “predicts” opponent input offline, allowing for smooth gameplay transitions that can be overridden if the opponent’s actions differ from the game’s prediction.

This results in noticeably better latency management and gameplay flow than delay-based netcode, which delays player inputs across the board by a number of in-game frames. This is intended to better synchronise game experiences for players, but usually results in sluggish gameplay and near-unplayability for players with higher network latencies.

It is currently unknown when the change will be implemented for console players, if at all.
