Hunt: Showdown 1896 ESRB Rating Surfaces
It seems Crytek might be planning something with the Hunt: Showdown game (or franchise), as a new rating for what’s called “Hunt: Showdown 1896” has surfaced on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) website.
The rating mentions it’s set for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and has an “M” for Mature rating which is to be expected.
Rating Summary:
This is a first-person monster hunting game set in a fantastical version of the Victorian era. Players use bladed bats, clubs, brass knuckles, and pistols to kill zombie-like creatures and human rivals. Combat is highlighted by impact sounds, gunfire, and blood-splatter effects. Some weapons allow players to cave in zombies’ heads or to cut off their limbs. One type of zombie explodes into blood and viscera when killed; another type is depicted wearing human skin as a cape.
Could this be for DLC or maybe a Hunt: Showdown sequel? It could, but if we had to wager a guess, this has something to do with the game’s migration from last-gen to current-gen happening this August. The big game engine upgrade being accompanied by a game rebrand does make sense from a marketing point of view. That said, we are guessing here. We’ve reached out to Crytek about the story, and will update the article if we get a statement back.
