Latest Resident Evil 4 Remake Patch Plugs Scope & RPG Exploits for Speedrunners, Players Downpatching for It and Here’s How

Earlier today, Capcom released a new Resident Evil 4 remake patch on all platforms. While it was released to fix a few bugs, it seems it also plugged some well-known exploits speedrunners have been using as well.

Chief among the fixes include “An issue causing players to warp through walls when using the scope in certain areas has been fixed.,” which you can see in action here. While Capcom didn’t list it in the notes, community members have confirmed that the infinite RPG ammo exploit has also been patched out with the latest title update. Both news are definitely not welcome to speedrunners who just want to finish the game as quick as possible (rules be damned!).

Well, RE4 remake players aren’t taking this one sitting down, as some have resorted to “downpatching” their game version in order for the exploits to still work. By downpatching, this means reverting the game to an older state/version where the exploits still work.

Curious how to do it yourself? We have a handy tutorial available below thanks via the Resident Evil 4 remake speedrunning community.

Before doing downpatching, note that MP1st does not recommend modding your game haphazardly, and take no responsibility if decided to do it.

How to Downpatch Resident Evil 4 Remake After Patch 1.05:

As you can see in this image, the red dot is the .exe (for WW_2 released 24/04/23) and the blue dot is the .pak’s which are the updates.

– To downpatch, copy the .exe and the latest .pak (so in this case 002.pak) and place them in a folder somewhere in case you want to go back to the later version.
-Download the .exe’s from here

Then, inside the games install folder delete re4.exe and the latest .pak (002 in this case) and replace the .exe with .exe from the patch before the current one (so in this case WW_1) and rename it to re4

– your install folder should now look like this:

and only have 000.pak and 001.pak (this is how to downpatch specifically to the patch before door clips were fixed)

If you’re really trying your best to beat Resident Evil 4 remake as quick as possible, then you might have no choice other than to downpatch it. Either that or beat it the regular way, though it will be a lot slower.
