Marvel Rivals File Size Reduction for Consoles and PC Incoming via Season 9.5 Update
This coming Friday, NetEase is set to release the Season 9.5 update for Marvel Rivals on consoles and PC, and this will not only introduce a new hero in The Hood, but even let players save some disk space too.
Players can expect a file size reduction for Marvel Rivals as part of the update, and it’s a huge one — regardless of your platform of choice.
Marvel Rivals File Size to Be Reduced on August 7
As part of NetEase’s Season 9.5 Dev Vision, Creative Director Guangguang talked about storage optimization of the hero shooter on PS5, Xbox and PC.
Guangguang states, “As the Marvel Rivals universe expands with every season, so does the file size. While this is a nature of a growing chronoverse, our tech wizards have been hard at work forging solutions. In Season 9.5, we are implementing a massive texture compression overhaul without sacrificing a single pixel or visual fidelity. We are drastically shrinking the game’s footprint on your hard drives\. PC players can expect a reduction of roughly 40 GB, while PS5 and Xbox versions are expected to decrease by 15 GB.”
This is good news, but be prepared to download a larger file initially, as Guangguang adds, because we are completely repackaging these assets, the initial Season 9.5 update will be larger than usual, but the final installed size will be much lighter.”
Aside from the file size reduction, The Hood is set to swoop in as a new Vanguard hero, the Summer Festival Vol. 2 that kicks off on August 12, and the Krakoan Reels event returns too.
Same as with every mid-season update, there are hero balance changes as well.
This new file size reduction is something I’m sure console and PC gamers will appreciate, especially how games these days don’t really care about compression much, and we’re left with 100+ GB monstrosities on our precious hard disks.
