Mortal Kombat 11 Cross Platform Play Being Looked Into by NetherRealms

Update:

Correction on Mortal Kombat 11 being developed using Unreal Engine 4. The fighting game is being developed on a “highly modified, NetherRealm version of the Unreal Engine 3.” Apologies for the mistake.

Original Story:

With Mortal Kombat 11 set for an April 23 release on almost every gaming platform conceived, some might be wondering whether we’ll see Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay (or cross-platform play) at some point.

While NetherRealm hasn’t confirmed or denied whether it’s coming or not, Game Designer Derek Kirtzic has at least confirmed that the studio is “looking into it”, and that they “hope” to do it at some point. Given how the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 4, and the game engine maker’s (Epic Games) push for cross-platform play, the actual technicality of it might be something NetherRealm can do, though it’s up to each platform holder whether they actually want to flip the switch or not. If you factor in that Fortnite and Rocket League are now implementing this feature, then there’s a good possibility that we’ll see Mortal Kombat 11 crossplay down the line.
