Naughty Dog Confirms They Are Not Done With The Last of Us

While it’s been six years since The Last of Us Part 2 was released, Naughty Dog hasn’t exactly been forthcoming on the franchise’s future. That changes today, as the studio’s boss confirms they are not finished with the universe they’ve created.

This basically confirms that more The Last of Us games are on the way.

However, when it comes to Season 3 of The Last of Us HBO series, Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann, who served as co-showrunner of the first two seasons, will not be involved in any way.

Speaking to The Washington Post (pawalled, via IGN), Naughty Dog studio boss Neil Druckmann confirmed that he — or anyone at the studio — is involved with HBO’s The Last of Us Season 3, but then mentioned they weren’t done with The Last of Us franchise just yet.

“I wasn’t involved in shaping this season’s creative direction, and Naughty Dog did not have a creative role in the direction of this season. So I can’t personally speak to how production is progressing. “It’s important for us to note that as the creator of the games, Naughty Dog is still the steward of this IP and even though this might be the end of this adaptation (refering to the third season of the TV show) we’re not done with The Last of Us, there’s a couple projects in the works that, when the time is right, I’m very excited to talk about.”

Druckmann didn’t specify whether this meant The Last of Us Part 3, perhaps a revival of The Last of Us Online game that was scrapped. Mind, Druckmann’s confirmation today isn’t exactly groundbreaking, as last year, the studio boss did say that there were more reports in The Last of Us franchise in the works.

Whatever that project is, don’t expect to hear about it for a while, as the studio is deep in the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — a title announced two years ago, and we’ve yet to see a single gameplay clip. A report surfaced recently that mentioned how the canned The Last of Us Online project cost Naughty Dog hundreds of millions of dollars and delayed Intergalactic.
