NBA 2K21 Servers to Be Discontinued on December 31, 2022

If you’re still playing NBA 2K21 online, well, we have some bad news for you. Visual Concepts has announced today that the NBA 2K21 servers will be killed off this December 31, 2022.

The announcement was made on the official 2K support page:

The time has come to let you know that NBA 2K21‘s servers will be discontinued as of December 31, 2022.

Players will no longer be able to play ranked or online league games. Accordingly, any mode that earns or uses VC will be affected, along with any other online function (such as the MyTEAM mode and online matches against other players).

As of January 1, 2023 this game will no longer be available for purchase. Players who already own it will still be able to redownload and play offline modes, of course.

Given the nature of sports games, this isn’t that surprising, but we’re just about two games out from the NBA 2K21, so there is a chance that some people might still be playing it.

The latest game in the series is NBA 2K23, and you can read our review of it here, where we state, “Lakers among the top teams when their third-best player is a 78 overall, but that’s an issue that might never be solved. Ultimately, NBA 2K23 isn’t simply a carbon copy of previous iterations and should be viewed as a step in the right direction for 2K’s continued evolution.”
