Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increases to $499, Change Starts This September
After weeks of rumors that Nintendo is facing pressure to increase the price, it is now official that the price of Nintendo Switch 2 is indeed going up. Like what happened with PS5, Nintendo has decided to increase the price of its console as well.
Nintendo confirmed the price increase will happen worldwide. In an official message, the company apologized and said the decision is due to changes in market conditions and the global situation.
Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Price Increase Worldwide

In the U.S., the price will go from $449.99 to $499.99, a $50 increase. However, this change will not happen right away, as the new price will only take effect on September 1. Until then, the console will keep its original price.
Here are the new prices in different regions:
- United States: from $449.99 to $499.99
- Canada: from $629.99 to $679.99
- Europe: from €469.99 to €499.99
- Japan: from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980
In Japan, the situation is worse, as not only the Nintendo Switch 2 price is increasing, but also Switch Online subscriptions and the original Switch models, with console prices changing on May 25—raising the Switch OLED to ¥47,980, the standard Switch to ¥43,980, and the Switch Lite to ¥29,980—while subscription fees will increase on July 1, including the 12-month plan going from ¥2,400 to ¥3,000.
Nonetheless, while the $50 increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 is clearly frustrating, it is still smaller than the recent price increases seen for the PlayStation 5. It may be better to buy the console now, before the September increase, especially if you were already planning to get it, since prices are clearly not going to go down.
