Capcom Announces Okami 2
[summaraize]
After remaking a few Resident Evil games and, more recently, Dead Rising, Capcom has now set its sights on another dormant franchise, Okami. That’s right, Okami is back, though it’s not a remake of the original but an entirely new entry as the long-awaited sequel, Okami 2, has finally been revealed.
The Beloved Japanese Franchise, Okami, Makes a Shocking Return
As revealed during tonight’s The Game Awards show, Okami is back! After nearly two decades since the original release, a true follow-up to the original 2006 classic is finally happening. While the original has received high praise from critics and fans alike, a sequel to the beloved Japanese franchise never came to fruition outside of a Nintendo DS follow-up, Okamiden. However, that was more of a spiritual successor rather than a sequel that many had wanted. Sadly, the franchise remained dormant, outside of a few re-releases of the original Okami, including an HD Remaster in 2018 and a collaboration with Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, another Capcom-owned IP. That was until tonight when Capcom made the shocking announcement that Okami was coming back in a brand-new sequel.
This is definitely going to be one of the biggest surprises from tonight’s set of reveals, and we’re surprised that Capcom has managed to keep such a tight lid on this secret for so long.
Though details are light (likely to come in a press release later), you can see from the reveal trailer that Okami 2 is sticking close, visually and gameplay-wise, to the original Okami. All I have to say is that it looks gorgeous from the short teaser, and like many, I cannot wait to try this out for myself. As for a release date, nothing has been shared at this time. We aren’t expecting to see a release for a while, either.
Now, if only Capcom would return to Okami HD and release a 60 fps update.
