Samurai Warriors 5 Is Considered a Reboot According to Koei Tecmo

Fans of the Samurai Warriors series who are looking to the latest installment will be surprised to know it’s also a fresh start to the series, as Samurai Warriors 5 is considered a reboot according to Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma!

In an interview with JP Games, Koinuma talked about the upcoming new installment — which is a prequel that takes place before any of the other games.

I think reboot would be an accurate way to describe this title as we are reimagining the original Samurai Warriors this time around. The characters and visuals are taking on a new look, and the story is set before the first title, with Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi as the main characters.

Koinuma also emphasized why Samurai Warriors 5 is a perfect jumping in point for newcomers.

In Samurai Warriors 5, we are detailing the period from the Ōnin War, which started the Sengoku period, up until the era in which the first Samurai Warriors takes place.

I think this title will be easier to understand as we are focusing on two main characters, Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi, and we go in-depth into their stories. This should also make it easier for new players who do not have any prior knowledge of this era to enjoy the game.

In related Koei Tecmo news, the Dynasty Warrior movie was released last April and we covered the trailer for that film. Perhaps a future Samurai Warriors movie may come as well.

Samurai Warriors 5 hits PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on June 21.
