In case you didn’t know, Konami officially announced Silent Hill 2 today, which is a remake of the classic being developed by Bloober Team (The Medium), and is being built on Unreal Engine 5. Alongside that, more details regarding the game have officially been announced, with Bloober confirming that the Silent Hill 2 remake will feature a “rebuilt” combat system.

Talking about the horror game on the PlayStation Blog, Bloober Team Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart not only talks about the combat, but about the game’s new perspective too.

“One of the new elements that you could spot in the reveal trailer is the adoption of an over-the-shoulder camera. With that change we want to immerse players even deeper into the game, make them feel like they are a part of this unreal world, and deliver them a more visceral experience across the board.”

Fans can expect not only the combat to be rebuilt, but there are also new setpieces that wil be available as well.

One change often brings another. With a new perspective, we’re rebuilding the combat system and certain set-pieces, among other things. Now that you see basically what James can see, we could find new ways to keep the player on edge.

When talking about the PS5 features, the studio touches on the console’s SSD, and how this will mean that there will be no loading screens that will be seen by players as they explore the “entirety” of Silent Hill.

Finally, regarding the PS5, Lenart states they are using the console’s 3D audio capabilities to let players hear and determine the exact direction of the sound. As for the DualSense, Lenart brings up The Medium as proof on how creative they can get with it, and teases that there are “more new ideas” for Silent Hill 2 when it comes to it, but it’ll be a surprise for now.

Silent Hill 2 will be coming to the PS5 at a still-undisclosed release date.
