Silent Hill Creator Keiichiro Toyama Sees Himself Collaborating With Resident Evil Creator Shinji Mikami in the Future
Way back during the time of the first PlayStation console, horror fans were treated to two amazing franchises in Capcom’s Resident Evil, and Konami’s Slent Hill. While we never saw the two franchises crossover, it seems that even after all these years, there is a chance we could see the two series’ creators collaborate on a horror game at some point in the future.
While no crossover or collaboration is planned, Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama recently hinted he’d be open to collaborating with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami on a future project.
In an interview with Prankster101, Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama was asked about recent collaborations between Suda51 and Shinji Mikami on Shadows of the Damned and whether he’d be open to working with the Resident Evil creator.
So whilst there’s nothing in the works at the moment, I think it’s largely possible that I might collaborate on something with the horror greats. I think there needs to be clarity on what I would need to do in that situation. Maybe I could do the story or the writing for that kind of game, if it’s a game, I guess. But there’s nothing going on like that right now, although I can see myself doing that in future.
Although he confirmed that no active project is currently in development, he added that he sees himself doing such collaborations in the future. He mentioned that he would love to write the story or script for the game but needs more clarity on that.
Mikami, who started working with Capcom in the early ’90s, earned the title “father of survival horror” largely due to his work on Resident Evil (1996). This game became a major hit on the PlayStation 1 and introduced new ways of playing horror games that many other games later copied.
The idea of two of the horror genre’s biggest giants working together will be very exciting to fans. The Silent Hill 2 remake, recently released, has received high praise from fans worldwide.
MP1st’s review of Silent Hill 2 Remake gave it a score of 9 out of 10, stating, “Bloober Team manages to make this horror classic better in every way, and in turn, it becomes a classic of its own.” The remake has already sold over a million copies, and the developers have promised even better titles in the future.
The Resident Evil 4 remake, released last year, also received high praise, with MP1st review giving it a perfect 10 out of 10, noting, “Capcom has made an already excellent game even better.” The game was also nominated for Game of the Year, showing that both franchises are doing amazing despite being decades old.
In terms of what’s in store for both developers’ future, Keiichiro Toyama is set to release his first horror game in over a decade with Slitterhead which is due for release this November 8 on consoles and PC. As for Mikami, the horror legend’s last work was Hi-Fi Rush where he acted as the game’s Executive Producer.
