The Sony PlayStation 4 has sold 7 million units globally as of April 6, 2014, the company announced today.

As for software sales, more than 20.5 million copies have been sold at retail and PlayStation Store worldwide as of April 13th, 2014.

“On behalf of the entire global team at PlayStation, I want to thank you for your unprecedented support and for making PS4 your next-generation console of choice,” writes Sid Shuman, Social Media Manager, on the official PlayStation Blog. “We couldn’t have done this without you! And please keep the feedback coming: we are listening.”

As we suspected, Shuman added that the company has some “great new details” to share “very soon” regarding the upcoming PlayStation 4 system software update.

Congrats, Sony!
