Summer Game Fest 2023 to Include 3 or 4 “Pretty Big” Announcements

Host and producer Geoff Keighley has revealed that three or four “pretty big” announcements are to be revealed during the upcoming Summer Game Fest 2023 event.

According to Keighley in an interview with Epic Games, the announcements will be “pretty big for this audience,” and considering the scope of Summer Game Fest, it’s possible he’s referring to AAA titles from large studios and companies. As to what sort of games we can expect, Keighley didn’t elaborate. To put things into perspective, Summer Game Fest 2020 included the gameplay trailer for Elden Ring as well as its release date.

The interview with Keighley also touched on a few other topics surrounding Summer Game Fest 2023. According to him, the event will include developers talking about their games on stage in front of a live audience, among other things. Keighley compared Summer Game Fest 2023 to The Game Awards last year, which he himself hosted:

Whereas The Game Awards is very much straight trailer, trailer, trailer, announcement, announcement, announcement. I think Summer Game Fest has a chance to talk to the developers and showcase games and give a little bit more context around games. We’re not giving out awards in the show. It really is just kind of a showcase of games.

And while fans and gamers will be able to enjoy the live show, Keighley stressed the fact that the show itself wouldn’t be a stand-in or replacement for E3:

The consumer experience is really coming to the live show. There will be some games and demos and things released online for fans to sort of play at home and experience. But the consumer experience is limited to the live show. We’re not doing panels. We’re not doing a convention show where you walk around and play games.

Summer Game Fest 2023 will go live on June 8 next month with Keighley set to host the kickoff show.
