Sunsoft Is Back – Virtual Event Announced for August 18

Sunsoft Virtual event

Sunsoft is back! Developer and publisher Sunsoft has been developing games since 1978 but went on a long hiatus. However, that changed today as Sunsoft announced that the company will be holding a virtual event on August 18 to reveal its plans for titles that they will be publishing in 2022 and 2023.

Yuichi Ochi, General Manager of Sunsoft made the announcement in a press release:

“Although we have been quiet for some time, many things have been happening behind the scenes. We are very excited to be able to finally share our vision for the rebirth of SUNSOFT with fans old and new.”

The virtual event will take place on Sunsoft’s official YouTube channel at 4 pm Eastern Time.

Here’s a brief description of Sunsoft, via its official website:

SUNSOFT is the video game division of Japanese electronics manufacturer SUNCORPORATION, established in 1971. In October 1978, SUNSOFT began to develop video games in arcades with two titles, Block Challenger and Block Perfect. We had several arcade hits in the early 1980s such as Arabian, Ikki and Kangaroo. On July 25, 1985 we released the first Famicon (NES) title Super Arabian in Japan under the SUNSOFT brand.
SUNSOFT is known for being a retro-game developer and publisher of such titles as Gimmick! , Blaster Master, Spy Hunter , BATMAN , Tripwprld , Uforia the Saga, etc.

As one of the first publishers licensed to publish games for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America, SUNSOFT created classic titles for both original properties and major licenses, such as Batman. Popular games included Spy Hunter, Aero the Acro-bat, Blaster Master, and Uforia: The Saga, etc.
