The Witcher 4 to Feature Romance Options; CDPR Aims to Make It “Super Compelling” and “Very Meaningful”

To no one’s surprise, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that in The Witcher 4, there will be romance options for Ciri. CDPR has included this feature in their games since the first The Witcher game was released in 2007.
Ciri Will Have a Love Interest (or Interests) in The Witcher 4
As revealed in a recent interview by GameSpot with Game Director Sebastian Kalemba, and Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga, Ciri, the new protagonist taking over for Geralt, will indeed have a love interest. Here’s what each of them had to say when asked if The Witcher 4 will have any romance:
Sebastian Kalemba: Absolutely. It’s a part of the way we make games. It is a part of human nature. It’s a very normal thing. Without that I think we wouldn’t be able to tell the very full story.
Małgorzata Mitręga: It’s an important part of life.
Sebastian Kalemba: But as always, we want to pay a lot of attention to it and make it super compelling and very meaningful. So it’s not just to make a romance for the sake of making a romance. That’s not the CDPR way.
It’s unclear if this refers to optional romances or a single one that occurs throughout the game, but given CDPR’s track record in previous games, we’ll likely see multiple and optional love interests for Ciri. These romance options will likely play a critical role in the game’s central plot, too, and if it’s anything like Cybperunk 2077 was, it will likely tie in toward the game’s endings, too.
Currently, The Witcher 4 has no release date, and there are no confirmed platforms other than PC. Though it’s likely aiming to arrive on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the reveal trailer did confirm that it was running on a yet-to-be-revealed NVIDIA GPU. All signs indicate that GPU is one of the RTX 5000 series cards expected to be revealed next month.
In terms of game size, CD Projekt RED confirmed that The Witcher 4 map size and amount of quests are “more or less” the same as The Witcher 3.
