Paramount Global’s Doug Rosen has revealed that a video game adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT): The Last Ronin is currently in development at an unnamed studio. Described as a “darker, more mature” spin on the IP, the third-person RPG title will feature gameplay similar to Sony Santa Monica’s recent God of War games, and is “a few years off” from release.

Paramount Global’s senior vice president for games and emerging media Doug Rosen has promised that the game will be authentic to the story of The Last Ronin miniseries, and likens its third-person RPG gameplay to the recent God of War titles. Unlike last year’s Shredder’s Revenge and true to the The Last Ronin’s story, the game will have a single playable character for the most part, though Rosen thinks it possible that other characters will be playable in flashback sequences.

The TMNT: The Last Ronin game is being developed by a studio Rosen chose to not name, but he did state that Paramount had once again found the “right partner” to adapt the miniseries into “an ambitious AAA video game.” Presently, the game is at least “a few years off from release,” and Rosen says that fans should expect further details on the title and other upcoming TMNT video games in the months and years to come.
