Valve Veteran Worried About Bungie Because Sony No Longer “Cares” About the Studio After Destiny 2’s Final Update
Bungie’s plans to release two Destiny 2 expansions every year came to an end when the studio announced that it was cancelling all future expansions and that the game’s final update would arrive in June.
Is the focus now completely on Marathon? Possibly, but a Valve veteran is worried about Bungie and believes that Sony no longer “cares” about it.
We’re talking about Chet Faliszek, the writer behind Portal and Left 4 Dead, who is worried about Bungie’s future after Destiny 2’s final update, and he doesn’t expect things to go smoothly.
After Destiny 2’s End, A Valve Veteran Fears What Comes Next for Bungie

Reacting to the news in a video (via GamesRadar), Faliszek said he was “just super bummed out because closing Destiny 2 on June 9 means they don’t need a whole bunch of people to keep Destiny 2 going and they’re not doing a Destiny 3”
He added, “Marathon was the big bet and that did not hit. Sony bought Bungie for their multiplayer games… I don’t think Sony cares anymore, right?”
Faliszek also explained that Bungie does not have many options right now. In his view, Destiny 3 would be the safest option, but publishers want live-service games that can last forever, and Bungie’s latest project failed to achieve that.
Because of this, Sony could be hesitant about Bungie’s next game. As Faliszek pointed out, “Counter-Strike’s been going on since 1997. These games, once they find an audience, can live forever, and that’s what these publishers are chasing.”
He also does not believe that splitting Bungie into smaller teams to work on smaller projects would solve the problem. According to him, that approach is difficult to manage inside large companies and often creates new issues.
For now, Bungie will have to continue improving Marathon and hope it can turn things around for the studio.
