While Xbox gamers might love Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass for its sweet deal of giving gamers new games to play each month at a discounted price, that doesn’t necessarily translate to game sales, as it could even more harm than good.

This tidbit of info was revealed by Microsoft themselves in a newly released 277-page report via the CMA (Competition and Markets Authority) in relation to the on-going acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by the Windows maker. In the report, Microsoft admits that Xbox Game Pass “cannibalizes” game sales.
What’s more, the software giant’s internal analysis also shows a decline in base game sales 12 months following their addition to the subscription service.
While it’s easy to see the value in an Xbox Game Pass membership for consumers, it doesn’t seem all that lucrative to game developers and publishers — at least based on the info Microsoft has revealed recently.
