New Battlefield 4 “Flood Zone” Gameplay, Plus All Maps Previewed

Get a fresh new look at Battlefield 4 with brand new gameplay captured on a previously unseen map, Flood Zone.

Having gotten some hands-on time with the game thanks to publisher Electronic Arts, a number of YouTube personalities have recently published brand new footage of the game on Flood Zone, an urban multiplayer map where gamers can employ the use of attack and speed boats on flooded streets once a crack in a near by dam becomes a gaping hole.

Check out some of the new videos below:

Flood Zone

Update 1

YouTuber COD5DEVIL also has a video preview of all Battlefield 4 maps, with the exception of “Seige of Shanghai” which most of you are already fairly familiar with thanks to the recent beta. If the controller indicators are anything to go by, most of the footage appears to be captured from the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

Update 2

It appears the videos below have been moved to another YouTube channel. No “Paracel Storm” or “Seige of Shanghai” footage is available, but we’re all pretty familiar with those maps by now.

Zavod 311

Golmud Railway

Rogue Transmission

Hainan Resort

Dawnbreaker

Lancing Dam

Flood Zone

Operation Locker

  • Mohammad Nassir

Nice map .. I liked the the changing of the map during the battle .. looking forward to this game ..

  • pbvider

I`ve never seen a worst BF player then the guy from the second video.NEVER!

    • oofy

I’ve seen worse. He’s not the worst.

  • Gannon

This game can not come fast enough…I’m just in awe.

  • Tyler Dominick

Sooooooooooooo much epic sauce.. is it monday night already?

    • Tyler Dominick

I assume this is console footage? xbox1 or ps4?

      • Gaming2Ghost

        Both PC sadly

        • Michael Oakley

not the maps that were shown off

      • mus1CKFps

PS3 From COD5DEVIL and PC from JACKFRAGS & LVLCAP

  • Ryan Schulze

Flood Zone looks immense with so many different types of terrain before and after flooding. Should make for an interesting RUSH map. Wondering how the flood and other major levolution actions work in RUSH.

  • marpla78

Damn…5 days of only beer…then BEEERR + GAMING!

  • Blaine Reinsma

wow some of these maps look incredible!! But jeez the ps3 footage… this game looks just terrible pathetic on current gen =/

Golmud Railway looks extremely bland, but I guess they gotta have 1 map that pleases the old-schoolers.Hainan Resort, Dawnbreaker, and Flood Zone all look amazing, and I think Operation Locker is going to be my favorite Battlefield map of all time, that map looks so cool!!

    • SamRock

      Exactly my thought!! :)

    • Katana67

I’d rather have decent maps than CQC cut-outs which ignore what made BF special in the first place. Golmud will be great, although the people with shorter attention spans will love some of the more “postcard” looking themepark maps.

      • Blaine Reinsma

Battlefield is still great on a map like Siege of Shanghai. It’s massive and there is tons of opportunity for vehicle combat. People like you just refuse to accept change or variety and instantly label anything other than the traditional classic Battlefield map as “COD influenced.”

And my problem with Golmud is not the style, its the visual blandness. They could have at least tried to make it visually appealing with some variance in elevation and defined routes. I liked Alborz Mountain and Death Valley because they were traditional vehicle maps that also looked good and weren’t completely flat.

        • Katana67

The town is elevated and there’s a massive mountain range encircling the map. I don’t know what more you want. The “razzle dazzle” of a map is irrelevant to whether or not it’s believable and decently thought out in my opinion.

I don’t refuse to accept change, I’m wanting a fair treatment of what made BF great. You can play the hell out of maps like Metro, just so long as there are a variety of maps which are reminiscent of traditional BF maps. BF4 appears to be playing favorites to Metro style maps.

Here’s to hoping the China DLC and, whatever the other DLC is called with Gulf of Oman, are decent.

Notice how I never mentioned CoD.

    • Michael Oakley

well what the fuck did u think u were gonna get with current gen the shit is about 9 years old

  • Brian Anthony

I guess I’m just gonna put my other games except killzone on hold till I get like 1000 hours out of the way on BF4! I’m so stoked! My lady isn’t however! But been trying to get her ready!

  • That guy you might know

I noticed in the first video when they successfully destroyed the object they all didn’t die in the huge blast radius like in the beta. Either I just assume they fixed that or he managed to get out on time.

But my biggest concern is the fact that these maps are gonna be a pain on PS3/360. The maps are great and all, but there just isn’t enough people.

I’m totally ready for next week though

    • That guy you might know

      Nvm
I didn’t realize it was rush.

  • mechcell
    • Ryan Schulze

      WOW!

      • mechcell

“We need more explosive” – Michael Bay

        • 8inister

          Shoosh.

        • Ryan Schulze

I think the explosions, the music, and that perfect ticking bomb effect tie it all together. Sound is so important in video and they nailed it in that trailer. I’m going to be humming “the whole world is a ticking bomb…” the rest of the day.

    • Aria68

Put “Call of duty: Ghost to Shame” WOW

      • That guy you might know

I thought the same thing, until I saw IGN.

They’re generally licking CoD’s balls so this is new to me xD

        • Aria68

          that’s exactly what i though!

      • BoxcuttahPazzy

They’ve been putting out the same game for 10 years now.
I mean come on, you can only expect people to start realizing sooner or later how over hyped the game really is.

  • Katana67

The last batch of videos have been removed

  • Karmmaguitar

I just hope they fix those crappy textures of the cockpit inside choppers

  • https://www.twitter.com/#!/PR0TENTIAL Shawn Kegarise

    Them are fighting words, IGN.

    • Aria68

Then people calling me a Troll!

    • SangheiliSpecOp

I still can’t beileve IGN themselves would put down CoD.

    • XFistsClenchedX

Not really. Every FPS puts COD to shame.

    • Mad Patriot

      Hell ya, but Ghosts…don’t have a ….ghost of a chance…LOL

  • Katana67

    Golmud Railway

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9WiauXQZyU

Looks amazing, and is what all BF4 maps should emulate. Towns, fighting in towns over strategic objectives. Not zerg rushing through nameless subways or around super cool themeparks.

    • Blaine Reinsma

It may have a good layout and it will play like a classic, traditional Battlefield map, but they could have at least tried to make it visually appealing instead of making it completely flat with basically one monotone color… At least the Armored Kill maps varied in elevation and scenery

      • Katana67

See my other post. Likewise, what does the color have to do with whether or not the map will be good? It’s “sand/grass” colored because that is the landscape.

    • 8inister

Way to go linking to someone playing a pirated copy, brains.

      • Katana67

It’s the same link as the one posted in the main article under UPDATE 2. Prick.

      • AtheistMason

        ….hello Mr Smart!

now what… “pirated copy” and Multiplayer??! lol use ur brains

    • AtheistMason

Looks like Armored Shield with objectives put closer to each other…. even the graphics are the same!

It might be like “soldiers fight in town while tanks on the hills outside the ‘objective zone’ hunt them down” lol

      • Katana67

Except this is on PS3 (with 24 players) and we have no idea where the objectives will be placed for 64. Likewise, Armored Shield was a verdant green field, and this is clearly some kind of semi-arid desert/grassland. I’m not sure what you mean by “the graphics are the same”. Do you mean the overall look of the map? The actual renderings of buildings?

Soldiers fighting in the town while tanks support them from the hills seems to be a textbook definition of “combined arms” operations. Which has been a hallmark of the franchise and is what makes Battlefield unique.

        • AtheistMason

You are just WAYYYY too literal about what I just said. By saying “the graphics are the same”, I mean they look so much alike, if you remove the HUD it looks just like Armored Shield from BF3. I know Armored Shield is greener and Golmud is more arid, but so what? They can’t make 2 completely same maps in BF3/4, so change a tint and it’s a brand new map, yeah?

Wait… It looks like Armored Shield and Operation Riverside combined!

I don’t know if there will be objectives placed in those hills. Check 30s of the video when the big map is shown.

          • Katana67

It’s problematic in taking a literal point of view based on vague statements. Hence why I asked you to clarify.

So you think that Golmud is laid out similarly to Armored Shield? I would disagree heavily with that assessment. Armored Shield is not built onto a hill, the town in Golmud clearly is. It’s tiered and incorporates multiple compounds in itself. Armored Shield was encircled by a river, this is not. Golmud has a massive facility at one end, Armored Shield doesn’t. There is likewise one large town, it seems, on Golmud. Whereas with Armored Shield, you have different compounds. There’s also a large highway/railroad moving up the middle of Golmud. They certainly do bear similar features, in that they both have towns and small groves of trees. That’s where I’d say the similarities end. So saying that they’re “completely the same”, isn’t accurate. Even if they were, the question of “why change something that works?” comes to mind.

Like I said, the objectives shown are for the 24 player PS3 outlay for CQ. Lord knows what objective placement we’ll see with 64 players.

            • AtheistMason

All right. I’m not arguing and I don’t like caviling.

  • James K

EA took down most of the videos on this article.

  • Katana67

Also, is anyone else kind of bummed that they’re using the “spawn-in vehicle” so much nowadays?

I get that it’s designed to minimize so-called “base rape”, but just seems like a caveman solution to me. Rather than making their bases defensible and doing sensible things like, I don’t know, putting Jets INSIDE the hangars that they’ve already taken the trouble of rendering… They’ve just taken a hatchet to the idea of a “main base” altogether.

    • Craig

It’s better than having 10 teammates waiting around the area where the chopper spawns

      • Katana67

The most I’ve seen is three, but it’s a fair point.

        • Craig

Oh it’s PS3?.. well, that would explain it lol

          • Katana67

            Wha?

    • badshot

The last battlefield game I played on PC was bf1942 they had maps with planes in the hangers and it caused so many problems. For instance if you tried to take off the same time as someone else and they lagged it would cause the planes to collide and no one was leaving the hanger leaving you with one option grenade the planes and respawn them and try again. If the hanger was more open it leaves you more vulnerable to attack. It’s a lose, lose situation you choose…

      • Katana67

With respect, one cannot develop (or limit) game mechanics based on the premise that a player “might lag” while doing something. So I’m not sure that has anything to do with it.

The point is, that in BF3, hangars are already built into the map (specifically on Gulf of Oman). Yet they aren’t used at all, leaving planes vulnerable to snipers, tanks, and other planes. Hangars exist for a reason, to keep what is inside them, relatively shielded.

Disregarding what is just a flawed vehicle spawn placement, and replacing it with an arguably “cheaper” system isn’t the way to go in my opinion.

  • Craig

The footage of the PS4 videos is pretty bad quality.. just look at the lettering.. I guarantee the game looks more crisp in person

    • Katana67

Only footage I’m seeing is PS3 and PC.

      • Craig

I guess I was too excited to read the article haha

  • BroJ

You had me at Gaping Hole David.

  • BroJ

    Videos has been pulled. WTF

    • 8inister

Because gameplay from pirated copies being played, duh.

      • BroJ

It is not pirated copies. It is probably early review copies. DUH

  • Johnny Neat

    Freaking EA cock blocking.

    • Crusina .

EA has a right to protect their property. For once they are in the right.

      • Johnny Neat

I agree, but come on. It’s just videos of the maps.

      • Johnny Neat

I see that me response on the day you posted was not accepted. I know and respect the right of EA or any company to protect their IPs. I’m just saying companies need to embrace the free marketing that these sort of youtube posts do for a game. If not, release content so consumers can see it officially. Granted, in this case EA did just that. Anyhow carry on the few of you who down voted me, but will continue posting negative EA comments in the coming years.

    • Johnny Neat

Down vote, it’s cool. I guess some EA employees got bothered.

  • SamRock

David. Thanks for sharing all these videos in one place!! :)

Battlefield Channel on Youtube has a preview of all the other Maps. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0Yy-3EADIdmXcSUzkRpjOQ?feature=watch

    My Thoughts:
    1. I see that Flood Zone has a distinct similarity to the “Ghost Town” map from BF2… and that map was my favorite!! Love this new map already
    2. Rogue Transmission and Lancing Dam looks awesome too.
    3. Dawn breaker unfortunately looks like Shanghai map with the sun down. Looks like its going to be the new Tehran Highway.. which nobody will play :(
    4. Hainan Resorts looks very similar to Paracel Storm.. which is not a bad thing.. loved that map too. But people might find it repetitive.

    5. Operation Locker is a complete infantry only map.. The snow is only on the outside. Most of the map seems to be inside the Prison.
    6. The only other boring map I thought was Golmud railroad. Just plan landscape like we had in Armored Shield map. Good for tank battle though.

I am waiting to play RUSH on all these maps.. They seem perfect for that Mode. Of course Conquest is always the true BF mode. Ever since BC2, Rush has been my favorite mode. I kinda missed it in BF3

    • Katana67

Plain landscape to some people means a plausible place to fight over. Golmud is easily the best looking, and most traditional BF map in this new crop of maps.

      • SamRock

Yes may be.. From what I saw.. only the town section looks interesting… the outside town landscape is just bland. Or may be I played too many “plain landscape maps” on BF in that past :)

        • Katana67

There’s a town (akin to what people actually fight in/over), a railway, open fields with rocky hills to occupy, and a massive train station/facility. I don’t know what more can be done.

Not every map, can or should, be some sort of themepark.

          • SamRock

Dunno why you keep referring to “Theme parks” in all your comments. You sound like you played lot of the CoD maps :D

I been playing BF for 8 to 9 years now.. from what I have seen, some of the most loved maps were the tight Urban maps – Karkand, Ghost Town, Warlord, Jalalabad, Sharquie and alike.

I was tired of Caspian Border and Operation Firestorm! I like maps that offer variety of paths, both vertical and horizontal. But then that my liking. Everyone has different taste

            • Katana67

I keep mentioning “themeparks”, because it refers to a particular concept (i.e. set-piece maps which are designed as such, and not landscapes per-se) and not because it refers to CoD.

I’ve been playing BF since 1942 released, and there has ALWAYS been a clear divide between “urban maps” and “rural maps”. For that matter, why can’t we have both in one map (a la Gulf of Oman). The point here is that I’m seeing a favoritism toward “urban” maps which are in no way unique to BF.

The maps are crucial, and here’s where I -will- bring in CoD. The maps themselves, as I’ve discussed many times here with others, ruined CoD for me. If the maps aren’t good, then the game isn’t good in my opinion. Which is why I’m taking such a hard line on the maps.

        • kingwill4231

Probably be able to do a lot of Destruction to those houses in the town however so that could make that map Unique..

          • Katana67

Not to mention that it appears that EVERY house in that town can be entered. The same cannot be said about the majority of urban maps. Which is partly why I favor rural maps.

    • oofy

      3. Shanghai…but with jets!

      • SamRock

Oh yeah!! I totally forgot that :D

    • BroJ

Tehran Highway is a very under appreciated map. I happen to love that map.

      • SamRock

Yes I loved that map on RUSH and Squad Rush. Conquest was not so nice.

  • kingwill4231

    AMAZING.. WOW

  • kingwill4231

OK the Floodzone board looks friggen EPIC!!!! I am stoked to try to it get my bearings of BF4 on Ps3 than Upgrade to Ps4 for the True epicness !!!

What blows my mind in those teasers in the new coming maps is that it’s set for “Conquest” If you realize their is a few flag points missing. “Conquest Large” On PC and Next gen consoles will include the additional points! Can’t wait for this, it’s crazy to say but Monday can’t come soon enough!

  • Ryan Hoffman

this game reminds me so much of socom map structure wise, im going to love this game so much. cant wait to play the suppression tame mode.
