Titanfall Sequel Confirmed For Multiple Platforms, Respawn Considering Free Map Packs

Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella has confirmed what we all almost already knew to be true; a Titanfall sequel is currently in development which will launch on multiple platforms.

Acknowledging the game’s existence for the first time, Zampella recently told IGN, “I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don’t know anything about it, or… yeah. So we’re working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we’re working on that. That’s the main focus but we’re starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It’ll be multiplatform.”

It’s likely that the title will remain multiplayer-only, though what’s really best for it is still up in the air.

“I mean it obviously prohibits a certain group of people playing the game, and as content creators you want to get into as many peoples’s hands as possible,” he explained.

“We put some single-player elements in there though, and tried to mix it up. Maybe we could have mixed things up a bit better because some people blew right by it and didn’t even see it because there was so much action happening around it. It’s tough, because if you hit people over the head with it it becomes intrusive, and there are people who don’t want or care about it. Where does the needle fall? I think it takes a while to figure that out and we haven’t figured it out yet.”

Zampella also hopes to handle DLC differently this time around and has considered offering map packs to fans for free as a way to keep Titanfall’s community playing together.

“I think that’s a fantastic way to do it,” he said. “I think having the maps like that in packs, it does split the community and it makes it harder for matchmaking, it’s messy. Yeah. I don’t know we won’t do it again, I can’t say that for sure, but the idea would be to do something different.”

Celebrating Titanfall’s first birthday, Respawn recently made the game’s DLC and Season Pass free on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.

Thanks, IGN

Don’t “consider” free maps packs, just do it.

    • jj16802

This is EA we’re talking about here. If there’s a profit to be made, they will do it.

      • SubXero

I know… a brother can dream though right?

      • jahladagaming

Well Titanfall had dedicated servers, constant free updates, added loads of new game modes and never had any micro-transactions, so they did pretty well I think.

        • Smigel

Except for the fact it was a flop, and servers became a ghost town within 3-4 weeks after launch.

          • Well that’s not true at all. It died out around 6 months after launch.

            • Austin Howell

90% of the population was gone within a month

            • Enochrewt

57% of statistics are made up.

      • MegaMan3k

Charge for card packs or something like that
Use free map packs to keep people playing
= potential for greater return on investment with a more stable cash flow

Try thinking in more terms than “dur companies should be altruistic and give everything away for free because profit is evil hail communism” and you’ll see that there are a lot more options available to companies than you would think

        • jj16802

Would you really think EA is as open minded as Valve is?

Then again a new CEO was appointed recently, so I could be talking about the old EA. We’ll just have to see how his policies will take hold.

        • Deathknight579

They don’t charge for card packs the only way to get those is to earn in game currency.

Loved the first one, but the lack of content pushed me away quite fast. If they add more weapons, Titans and upgrades for example, I would more than likely stick to the game for a longer period of time.

I can’t wait for the sequel though.

  • Titanfall Sequel is a must buy!! I have load’s of fun playing it!

    • shodannet

      You played the sequel already?

  • Primey_

Meh. I felt underwhelmed by the first one. Gave in to the hype at launch and got it and the season pass. Regretted it. I’ll wait until the 2nd one is on sale, no chance are they getting full RRP from me

    • Smigel

Yep. Wait ’til a $5 sale.

  • Mr Frags

As long as it has more content I’ll be happy.

  • Tri-Edge

Just bought my xbone & titanfall & I can safely say the ps is missing something special. Cant wait for Titanfall 2.

    • Smigel

Meh. Auto aimbot pistol noobs get old real fast. Dead servers and matchmaking taking 20 minutes gets old real fast. And 6v6 padded with braindead AI bots, it just all becomes very lame very fast.

But by all means. Knock yourself out.

      • Cameron Purdie

With the exception of the smart pistol and lack of players, nothing you mentioned is an issue. The game was amazing except for those two things.

    • Austin Howell

Have fun playing with all dozen remaining players…

  • I hate pot heads

PS4 is without the cloud. How will it ever run Titanfall 2?

    • Aria68

      haha you right :))

    • Just saying

I hope you’re joking because all the stuff they said about the “cloud” was total garbage.

      • Hardline

        Yes I was.

    • Mr Frags

By “cloud” I think they were partially referring to Azure. Sucks because Azure is makes for a phenomenal game experience but I doubt they’ll use them if it’s on PS4.

      • Smigel

Citation needed for Azure making “phenomenal game experience”, because as far as I’ve seen its just been a lot of marketingspeak hot air.

        • Mr Frags

Azure is Microsoft’s server platform. Microsoft has one of the best, most complex server infrastructures out there that even governments use. No citation is needed, Titanfall had phenomenal servers with no lag whatsoever.

          • Barry Harden

Azure isn’t the be all solution you make it out to be. Azure has had problems of its own and has been down several times. I remember when it went down and people got pissed when their Office365(on da Cloudz) wasn’t accessible.

XBL too has had its share of problems. The amount of incidents have outnumbered PSN.

        • blaqkbox

Except Titanfall’s servers alone delivered better online experience than PSN as a whole.

  • Lugene Parker

How about increasing the amount of players to do 12v12 or 24v24 and take bots out…

    • dpg70

Yeah, my biggest complaint was the low player count and fill in bots. Fun game overall though.

    • Cameron Purdie

No thanks. It was hectic enough as it is, and the bots added a nice dynamic.

      • M1ke Daddy

Because of the bots they pretty much managed to eliminate Camping

  • Yevgenij Pekurovskyy

Just take more time and give us more content. If you ship the game with 20+ maps at launch we won’t need any expansions.

  • Phoenix

I know that it would never happen, but considering this is on Source it would be awesome if they let the community design their own maps and code their own game modes, like games like Counter Strike. It would give the game a much, much, much longer life time. Even if playing on these custom servers were all unranked and didn’t give you Exp, it would still be a lot of fun. Often times the community can make better and more interesting maps than the developers. And plus, with the movement mechanics of the game it would open up a whole new dimension for mappers. I’m just really curious to see what people would be able to create.

But like I said, I know it would never happen. But I can dream!

  • Anonymous Tom

Uh-huh. Free map packs. Bullshit. Just like Visceral said Battlefield: Hardline wouldn’t have Premium.

I really should just cancel my Hardline pre-order and save my money for Star Wars: Battlefront.

Let’s not lie to ourselves. People will only play Hardline for about 9 months, then switch to Battlefront, I wouldn’t be surprised if Battlefield 4 takes a dip in player numbers.

Back on topic, I really enjoy Titanfall, I really just hope they include and actual, coherent single-player story in the sequel. In all honesty, Titanfall’s story seems interesting, it’s just hard to follow because the game is so sporadic, switching you to a random team whenever you join a Campaign game, making it difficult to follow the story.

    • DigitalDaniel

Uhm, Titanfall got less story than port flicks (and Destiny), so I wouldn’t have any hopes for any story that makes sense in the sequel. With that said, I liked Titanfall but it got boring too fast. Hopefully the sequel will have higher player count, more maps, MORE weapons and ditch the card system that really sucked. Also, if they insist on staying with A.I enemies then they should have more game mechanics to it and also made them more of a challenge.

      Just my two cents though.

  • Barry Harden

People should click on the link to read the whole article.

I love the part where ReSpawn’s CEO admitted TitanFall would’ve been better on all platforms instead of being exclusive. Wonder why David Veselka didn’t mention this part?

  • M1ke Daddy

I’m pretty excited for the Sequel especially since it’ll be on the PS4 but lets hope the Sequel has triple the content then the original cause as fun
as Titanfall was it just didn’t have enough content to keep me coming back

  • AstroCyborg

hopefully they don’t half ass the campaign again lets see a real campaign or don’t offer one at all
