Embark Gives Update on The Finals Cheaters Situation; No Plans to Region Lock Servers

If you played The Finals this past weekend, and even today, you may have noticed there is a large number of cheaters populating the game, at least on PC and those who have crossplay enabled. Many took to Reddit to complain about it, with Embark remaining silent, though we now finally know why as they’ve released a statement concerning cheaters in The Finals and what they’re doing.

Taking to the game’s official Discord channel, Embark revealed why so many cheaters suddenly started popping up in the game, chalking it up to a technical issue that efficiently prevented bans.

“Hey folks!

Over the past few days, we’ve had a technical issue that prevented us from banning cheaters efficiently. We’re now nearing a solution to this bug, and we’re already begun re-upping our anti-cheat measures again. Thanks for your patience as we continue to sort through issues.

Keeping the game a smooth, safe, and fair space for players is our biggest priority.”

From the sounds of it, we’ll still have to weather the issue for a tad longer before mass bans start dropping, though they’ve deployed some counter-measurements.

In some related news, players are noticing that a good chunk of the cheaters are coming from Asia-specific regions despite selecting North America as their servers. This has called for region locking the servers from the community as a way to combat cheating since the anti-cheat measures haven’t been working all too well. A community manager on the Discord channel commented on this suggested solution, noting that the cheaters are coming from all regions and the team doesn’t want to region-lock the game.

“We don’t want to region lock. isn’t a personal opinion, it’s a company decision. sorry if you don’t wanna be called racist, but isn’t that what it is? or, wait, xenophobia maybe?Cheaters are in all regions, and we see a good chunk of them using Chinese names as in a copium method to be harder to be reported.”

Understandable as some servers aren’t as populated as others, resulting in long matchmaking times, though that comes at the expense of cheaters running rampart. It’s not a big issue on consoles when you disable crossplay, as a bulk of the cheaters are on the PC side.

Let us hope whatever fix Embark has coming does the trick, though the war on cheaters will always be never-ending.

The Finals is now available as a free-to-play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

“From the sounds of it, we’ll still have the weather issue for a tad longer”. So you’re saying it’s coz it’s raining that the banning system is broken?
