Next-Gen Grand Theft Auto 5 Gets a First-Person View, Will Be 1080p and 30FPS on PS4 and Xbox One

From top-down to over-the-shoulder third-person, Rockstar Games is now bringing the entire Grand Theft Auto world into the first-person view in perhaps the biggest change to the series since GTA first went 3D.

No, it’s not a brand new entry to the series, but the newly remastered version of Grant Theft Auto V coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that is introducing a whole new way to play one of the most popular game series of all time.

As previously rumored, Rockstar announced today that gamers picking up the re-release on any of the three platforms listed above will get to re-experience GTAV, in its entirety, in either third-person or first-person perspectives, including GTA Online.

“We’ve made a host of changes to accommodate this new perspective,” Rockstar wrote in a recent Newswire update, “including the creation of an optional first person cover system, a new targeting system, a more traditional FPS control scheme, and integrating thousands of new animations into the existing game. It’s also available at the touch of a button so you can easily switch back and forth between perspectives.”

Players can play through the entire game in either perspective, including a hybrid of the two that melds first-person gameplay with a third-person cover mechanic. But enough talking about it. Watch it in action in the new trailer above.

You’ll notice that the visuals have also been greatly improved which accommodates the new view nicely. According to Rockstar, GTAV will run at 1080p and 30FPS on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One while being 4K compatible on PC. Check out these new screens:

Grand Theft Auto 5 arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this November 18. Expect it on PC this January 27.
