Battlefield 2042 Tick Rate Changes and Ping Value in Scoreboard Not in the Cards for Now

Battlefield 2042 Tick Rate Changes

With DICE evolving Battlefield 2042 more and more through each season, some players might be wondering whether this will usher in changes to other facets of the game such as the tick rate. Unfortunately, DICE has put the squash on that, as the developer confirmed that no Battlefield 2042 tick rate changes are planned for now, thought they have discussed this in the studio.

This was revealed by Battlefield 2042 Lead Game Designer Florian Le Bihan in an online media interview conducted by EA. In it, Florian was asked whether any Battlefield 2042 tick rate changes were planned at least for 64-player modes.

Q: Have you planned any changes about tick rate at least in 64 players ?

Florian Le Bihan: We have no changes related to tickrate at this point but this is something we have been discussing on our side.

In the same chat, Le Bihan was also asked whether showing the ping values (connection meters) of players in the scoreboard is a possibility, which, sadly, it doesn’t seem to be given that the scoreboard is already packed enough with info as it is — at least according to the developer.

Q: Is there a possibility of adding a ping value to the scoreboard? Having to enable the diagnostic views to know if I just connected to a server across the world is cumbersome, and I find that sometimes I play matches where I get shot around cover a lot. Even if the ping is just shown for my connection only, it’d be an improvement

Florian Le Bihan: The space we have in the scoreboard is quite limited so we have to be careful with what we want to show. We’re already considering a few additions to the scoreboard. Showing ping would a nice to have but we have to discuss the priority of this vs other information

For those unaware, BF2042 is currently running at a server tick rate of 45hz on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S. If you’re not familiar with it, a simple explanation is that server tick rate is the frequency at which a server processes updates and is measured in hertz, this means that the higher the tick rate, the faster a player receives input updates from the server, and will translate to an online game that feels more responsive and accurate to the player.

Both features not planned at the moment definitely is a bummer, but in the same chat, Le Bihan confirmed that 3D spotting is coming back in Season 3! While some players might not be a fan of it, as a longtime Battlefield player, I am all for it since it promotes more teamwork, makes callouts easier and so on.
