There are new signs that Xbox could change strategy again when it comes to exclusive games. After the decision to bring some Xbox titles to PS5 and Nintendo Switch, many players believed exclusives were no longer a priority.

Over time, even more Xbox games arrived on PlayStation, and with Halo: Campaign Evolved also announced for PS5, many fans felt that the “console war” was basically over. However, things may now be changing under the new leadership of Asha Sharma.

Xbox Reevaluating Exclusivity as Asha Sharma Considers “Range of Options”

In a recent internal message, Xbox CEO Sharma said “we will reevaluate our approach to exclusivity” for Xbox games. Right now, this does not mean anything definite, but it shows there is interest in changing strategy again.

According to Tom Warren from The Verge, there are “a range of options” being considered. Sources say that Sharma is being careful and “isn’t yet ready to commit to any major changes” yet. The decision is complex and will take time.

One important reason Xbox hasn’t made a final decision yet may be the strong success of bringing its games to PlayStation. Reports say Xbox has generated about $667 million in revenue from releasing some of its first-party games on PS5.

Because of this, a full return to the old system, where Xbox games were only on Xbox, seems very unlikely. That would mean making big titles from Activision Blizzard and Bethesda exclusive again, which would be hard and risky.

A more likely option is to decide case by case. Xbox could choose which games stay exclusive and which ones also release on other platforms. For example, some series like Forza might keep coming to PlayStation, while others like Halo or Gears could stay only on Xbox.

Some upcoming games already show this mixed approach. Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Fable are planned for PS5, while Gears of War: E-Day has not been announced for PlayStation yet and could remain exclusive.

In related news, a recent survey confirmed that exclusive games remain the number one reason people purchase a specific video game console.
