Call of Duty Movie Will Be Set In Modern Warfare Universe
For as long as the Call of Duty franchise has been going, it has been surprising that it has taken this long to get a movie based on the series. First announced last September and more recently given a release date in April, the Call of Duty movie got some major news today at Fanatics Fest regarding its setting.
Call of Duty Movie Has Found Its Era

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 held its first hands-on opportunities at Fanatics Fest this week, and alongside that held a special panel on Saturday titled Call of Duty in Culture. This panel, hosted by Katie Nolan and featuring Kevin Durant, Inde Navarrette, Mark Grigsby, and Tyler Bahl, had a surprise at the very end with the introduction of Peter Berg, who is directing and co-writing the Call of Duty movie.
Alongside co-writer Taylor Sheridan, Berg said they are aiming to truly honor the military, specifically Navarrette’s father, who served, with this movie.
From there, he reconfirmed the release date as June 30, 2028. The big news he dropped, though, is that the movie will be set in the Modern Warfare universe. He mentioned seeing people like Captain Price, Ghost, and Makarov, so it sounds like they are going all in.
It will be interesting to see what they take from the original series and reboot series, or if they focus on one over the other.
No more details were given, but hopefully we’ll get casting news sooner rather than later, as we know some of the main roles that will be involved now.
The Call of Duty movie will hit theaters June 30, 2028. Also, don’t forget about the latest game in the series, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, which arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X (S), Switch 2, and PC on October 23.
