Silent Hill 2 Update 1.007

Bloober Team has released a new game update for Silent Hill 2 on August 6, and this is an unannounced patch for the horror game.

Given the game’s age and how it’s a remake, do not expect any new story-related content to be part of today’s patch.

Read on for what to expect from today’s Silent Hill 2 update 1.007 download.

Update: Konami has finally released the patch notes! The patch is for the PS5 and PS5 Pro, and once applied will show the game as version 1.0.7.

Per Konami, “We are happy to announce a new update that improves performance on both Performance Mode and Quality Mode. Additionally, the patch addresses shadow flickering and reduces certain visual artifacts that may occur while moving. The update also includes various improvements to overall visual quality and additional bug fixes.”

  • Improved game performance in both Performance and Quality Modes
  • Improved the visuals of the fog
  • Fixed visual glitches on various assets
  • Fixed certain visual artifacts that may occur while moving
  • Improved overall visual quality

Given this is an unannounced update, we’re not expecting much, and the only piece of content/feature that Bloober Team promised was on the way was a fix for the issues with the PS5 Pro. In case you didn’t know, Silent Hill 2 had issues with the PS5 Pro in the form of visual artifacts and shimmering caused by Sony’s PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) upscaling technology.

This was something the devs promised they were going to fix a long time ago, but we haven’t seen an update for it released. The last title update we received was two years ago, which promised fixes for the PS5 Pro issues, but it didn’t take — at least not for everyone. If we get a proper changelog from Bloober Team or Konami, we’ll update the article with the info.

For reference, Bloober released patch 1.07 on Steam last year and had the following fixes:

  • Fixed Razer Chroma™ RGB Lighting issues
  • Improved some Lying Figure animations to prevent clipping when passing through windows
  • Fixed potential crash related to missing DirectX libraries
  • Additional fixes for the rotating cube in the Labyrinth
  • Some minor AI fixes

With Silent Hill: Townfall set to be released soon-ish, we’re not expecting any other updates for Silent Hill 2 to be released, though we’d love to be proven wrong.

Speaking of which, we managed to get some early hands-on time with Silent Hill: Townfall, and we’re impressed by what we’ve played so far. In addition to that, there is a remake of the first Silent Hill game, which is also being handled by Bloober Team. Once we get more news about that, we’ll let our readers know.

It’s now using PSSR2 in the performance mode. Shadows and lighting have also been updated and are closer to the version that existed before the original Pro patch. Performance has been improved. Lumen reflections have been dialed back a tad.
