Xbox Could Be Using Dynamic Pricing to Attract Players Back to Game Pass
Microsoft may be experimenting with dynamic pricing to encourage former Xbox Game Pass subscribers to return to the service.
It appears Microsoft may be keeping track of users who have stopped paying for Game Pass and offering some of them discounted prices to convince them to subscribe again.
The situation came to light after Reddit user ‘synthlov3r’ shared an offer he had received.
Microsoft Is Offering Cheaper Game Pass Deals to Some Users
He said, “Been looking for an annual subscription for years, $16.09 a month for 1 year Ultimate. I’ll take it.”
The offer was not exactly an annual subscription at a fixed price. Instead, the user was offered Xbox Game Pass for $16 per month for 12 months, after which the price would increase to $22.99 per month.
Other users also shared different Game Pass offers they had received. This suggests Xbox could be offering different prices to different users.
One user explained that similar offers can appear when two accounts are active on the same console and the account without a Game Pass subscription is used: “My offer was $18 something for 12 months, so I’m guessing they’re doing some kind of dynamic pricing bs. And I don’t get an offer at all on my main account that I already use to pay for gamepass.”
The original poster replied that the offer may have appeared because “I cancel gamepass almost every month so maybe this was their way of keeping me.”
Dynamic pricing isn’t new, as Sony has been doing it in its PlayStation Store sales, though to mixed feedback.
These and other replies suggest that Microsoft may be offering different Game Pass discounts depending on a user’s subscription habits.
