XDefiant PS4, Xbox One Version Scrapped, Ubisoft Only “Focusing” on Current-Gen Consoles

XDefiant PS4

While XDefiant was announced as coming to last-gen, current-gen consoles and PC, multiple tests have been conducted, and not once was it available on last-gen. As it turns out (and as expected), the XDefiant PS4 and Xbox One versions have been cancelled.

This was confirmed by the official XDefiant Twitter/X account in answering a fan who asked about the PS4 version after yesterday’s release date announcement.

This is the first direct confirmation from Ubisoft of XDefiant’s last-gen future. Originally, the company mentioned how they are pushing for current-gen (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC versions first, and once that’s out, the last-gen console versions will be released. However, given the multiple tests, and not even mentioning the last-gen versions at all in any capacity in over a year, we now have confirmation that if you want to play XDefiant, you will need a current-gen console or capable PC.

Honestly speaking, I am not surprised. Given how the shooter had multiple bumps even before nailing a release date, optimizing the game and making sure it runs smoothly on five platforms instead of just three seemed liked a huge undertaking. Not to mention that last-gen consoles are now over 10 years old, and would probably gimp the current-gen versions if Ubisoft forced the situation given that parity is needed for game balance and whatnot.

XDefiant is headed for release this May 21 where it will start the pre-season. While we liked what we played so far, we did note a few things we want to see improve.

Stay tuned for more XDefiant coverage here on MP1st.
