A Plague Tale Devs Originally Never Considered Making a Sequel; Spent Considerable Time Studying Feedback From Players

A Plague Tale

While A Plague Tale Requiem is set to be released next month on October 18, did you know that the developers over at Asobo Studio never intended for a sequel to be made at all? But the studio did leave the ending open-ended just in case.

Speaking in issue #87 of GameCenter (Walmart’s official gaming mag), Kevin Choteau Game Director at Asobo Studio, shared that the devs were only focused on making the first game a hit, and that they never even considered making a sequel.

To capture the authenticity that is part of the DNA of A Plague Tale, we wanted an open ending, not the usual happy ending where everything is resolved. This gave us a good starting point to working on a sequel where we could freely explore the fate of our characters

Choteau added that the entire dev team was eager to jump on a sequel, since it gives them a chance to “revisit our entire gameplay and take on new challenges,” as well as take into heart the feedback the studio got from players.

We have spent considerable time studying the feedback given by both players and critics, to decide what we were going to do in Requiem and offer all possible improvements to the game beyond its story.

In other A Plague Tale Requiem news, Asobo has confirmed that the game’s total length will be 15-18 hours long, and don’t expect any fillers to pad the game’s total playtime. The studio has also talked about the power of the PS5 as well, and how it affects gameplay.

A Plague Tale Requiem is officially launching on October 18 for the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
