’90s Game Publisher Acclaim Rises From the Dead; Showcase on Sept. 10
If you grew up during the ’90s, then chances are you’ve probably heard of the publisher giant, Acclaim, which helped bring classics such as Mortal Kombat and Turok to the market. Although they would eventually go bankrupt during the early 2000s, it seems they’re preparing for a massive comeback, and it all starts next month with their very first “Play Acclaim” showcase.
Fans of the golden era of gaming will want to pay close attention, as the publisher promises a bold and exciting future that will remain true to its roots.
Acclaim Offers a Glimpse Into Their Showcase Next Month With a Teaser
As announced via social media and a press release, Acclaim is back! That’s right, that mega-publisher from the 90s has returned, after two full decades of being shut down. While we won’t know exactly what they’ve cooked until the “Play Acclaim” event that is airing next month happens, the video above does seem to be teasing the return of many of its classic published titles.
But don’t think for a minute that this is simply about republishing their older titles for modern consoles, as Acclaim’s CEO Alex Josef hints at something “exciting and different” coming from the publisher.
“We’re not here to chase ghosts,” said Alex Josef, CEO of Acclaim. “We’re here to take the energy and chaos that made Acclaim unforgettable and channel it into something new. The old screens are cracking, and what’s coming through is something exciting and different.”
“You can’t rewrite the past,” Josef added. “But you can build upon it. This is about owning our story and moving it into a future that feels bold, energetic, and completely fresh.”
The Play Acclaim showcase will air on September 10, 2025.
