Asus just revealed Asus Spatial Vision Technology, a feature on their latest laptops that uses an autostereoscopic 3D display with OLED. It requires no wearables such as 3D glasses for the 3D effect to work.

The new technology was featured at CES 2023, and a trailer showcasing the potential of Spatial Vision was also released. Have a look:

Spatial Vision uses a combination of hardware and software, tracking eye movement to display real-time images that look seamlessly 3D. You can also swap between 2D and 3D modes when necessary.

This is made possible using a lenticular lens and advanced eye-tracking camera technology, enabling the display to weave distinct images for each eye, resulting in an autostereoscopic 3D image. Users can also switch effortlessly between 2D and 3D. This new technology can totally change creator workflows, as users will be able to see the details of 3D objects and effects directly on the screen without needing to review physical prototypes, saving time and money while making their workflow more efficient.

The 3D images will feature high-quality graphics thanks to the OLED display that comes with the new ASUS laptops. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, 0.2ms response time, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The high refresh rate and low response time make the displays especially handy for gaming.

To support this new tech, Asus is also introducing the Asus Spatial Vision Hub, which contains apps that you can use to make the most out of Spatial Vision. You can watch videos, play games, and examine models, all in 3D. Developers will also have access to development tools for Asus Spatial Vision tech, including plugin access for most 3D software. This will allow creators and devs to build their own projects that support Spatial Vision tech.

As stereoscopic 3D displays aren’t mainstream just yet, we’ll have to see how much the new Spatial Vision tech can impact the video game industry.
