ASUS’ April Fools’ surprise now has a release date, and it’s much closer than one would expect. Featuring an AMD Ryzen Z1 series APU and a 120 Hz, 500-nit 1080p touchscreen, the ASUS ROG Ally will debut on May 11 with a special launch event where its full specifications and pricing will be revealed.

Powered by Windows 11, the ASUS ROG Ally weighs only a mere 608 grams, 61 grams less than the rival Steam Deck. The new handheld features a custom AMD Ryzen Z1 series APU, supported by ROG’s Zero Gravity thermal system which uses a dual-fan setup with “ultra-thin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes” to keep the device cool during intense, demanding gameplay sessions. The 500-nit 1080p touchscreen has a 120 Hz refresh rate with Adaptive Sync support to eliminate screen tearing during potential framerate drops.

ASUS’ handheld also features a Special Edition of its Armoury Crate software, including quick performance mode toggles, a game launcher, in-game monitoring functionality, Aura Sync support, and additional undisclosed features. A 90-day trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will also be bundled with the handheld to offer gamers access to hundreds of AAA titles on the go for a limited time.
