Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Drop-In Co-Op and Trading Confirmed; Story Progression Can Be Shared

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora co-op

While Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora featuring multiplayer isn’t new, the fact that it will offer drop-in, drop-out co-op is. Alongside this, story progression can even be shared, which is a nice plus.

In the latest issue of Game Informer (issue #161), it was mentioned by the devs over at Massive Entertainment that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will feature drop-in/drop-out online co-op, and how the game was designed with two players in mind. For those wondering, you’ll be able to play the entire adventure together with an online buddy.

To further add to the co-op aspect of the game, Player 2 will retain both character and even story progression (to some degree). Story progression is dependent on if both players are on the same mission. That means you could beat the entire game, with a friend, from start to finish and keep story progression on both accounts.

On the other hand, if say your friend joins you and your very late in the game, they won’t be able to play that mission since they’ve yet to progress there.

This is fantastic news, as those who have played the Far Cry series will remember that any progress was saved only for the host. That meant that if you joined someone and made progress in the story, then you’d have to do it over again for yourself. You’d have to continue your own progression, despite making it with another player in their game.

Another thing worth noting is trading of gear is confirmed too! Players who have a higher level can gift their online co-op pals powerful weapons and gear that they can then use in their own campaign. This should help gamers starting out get a leg up on enemies and the game — as long as they have a willing buddy to gift them stuff.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora sails out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC this December 7.
