Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Sold Two Copies in Vatican City, the World’s Smallest Country With 764 Residents
How can you resist a thrilling adventure like the one Baldur’s Gate 3 offers? The fantasy RPG from Larian Studios has already sold more than 15 million copies and was crowned GOTY 2023, proving its success is undeniable. Yet, even in all the twists and turns of its vast story, few could have imagined how far its influence would reach.
Michael Douse, Larian’s publishing director, shared on X/Twitter that Baldur’s Gate 3 has even made its way into a place as unexpected as Vatican City. With just 764 residents across 0.44 square kilometers, this tiny nation in the heart of Rome is the smallest country in the world.
Sold 2 copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 in The Vatican, with 1 wishlist. I’d like to think the latter is just the Pope waiting until he has a free minute. Wish I could see their mod list. Bet it’s absolutely gnarly.
The Vatican is known as the seat of the Pope and the Catholic Church, but it is also home to priests, bishops, and the Swiss Guard. Among them, two individuals have decided to explore the Forgotten Realms of Wizards of the Coast through Baldur’s Gate 3. Surprisingly, they aren’t the only ones interested.
A third Vatican resident has also shown interest in the game, keeping it on their wish list. Though they haven’t yet made the purchase, they clearly intend to add it to their collection at some point.
MP1st’s review of Baldur’s Gate 3 gave it a score of 9.5 out of 10, stating, “If you can only purchase a single game for a couple of years because budget is tight, Baldur’s Gate 3 should be the one.”

Gotta do something to keep those little boys quiet…
I’d genuinely be curious to see what kinds of games sell at the Vatican. The secret lives of priests and all that.
