Updated Battlefield 6 Player Movement Mechanics From BF Labs Heavily Lean Into COD Territory
[summaraize]
While DICE and EA have remained mum about the new Battlefield game (which we’re referring to as Battlefield 6 even there’s very slim chance that’s the actual title), a ton of info about the game has surfaced from the closed Battlefield Labs playtest.
Even in its closed pre-alpha state, DICE has been routinely updating the test client with new maps, features and more. This time, the latest update is connected to player movement.
Before checking out the footage, remember that this is from a closed pre-alpha build, and as such, should NOT be treated as the final version of the game. For all we know, DICE might remove some of the movement mechanics once it’s all said and done, and there is a chance the devs can add a few stuff connected to it too.

The footage comes from the BF1 Telegram leaker group. Given that we don’t want to receive another takedown notice from publisher Electronic Arts, we’ve embedded the same footage that someone uploaded to the Battlefield subreddit.
As you can see, in the Battlefield Labs client, aside from sliding, players can jump and dive to the side while firing. It seems to be a faster pace than what we’re used to seeing in past Battlefield games, but I personally don’t find anything wrong with it. However, some players are saying it leans too much into Call of Duty territory, which aims for twitch reflexes and arcade-style movement that’s popular these days.
Some Battlefield fans want to see a smaller-paced gunplay and movement system, which I understand why. While Battlefield was never a mil-sim kind of game, it usually relied on authenticity.
Personally, I’m fine with this given we haven’t played it yet or have seen it in action in your regular Battlefield sandbox environment. Also of note, if we limit every new thing that DICE wanted to implement in a new Battlefield game, they then would be called out for playing it safe, or not adding anything new. It’s a lose-lose proposition for the developers; that’s why I’m cutting them some slack. Its’ not like they can’t dial the movement speed back if they wanted to.
In other Battlefield 6 news, our early look at the game’s factions is a step in the right direction, as there doesn’t seem to be any goofy character skins present — at least for now.
EA hasn’t announced anything yet, but the publisher has reiterated that we can expect the new Battlefield game to be revealed this summer.
