Bethesda Committed to Making Redfall a “Good Game”

By now, it’s no secret that Arkane Studios’ Redfall hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations (be it critically or commercially). If you think the game can still be brought back by the devs into a better state, Arkane’s parent company Bethesda thinks so as well.

Speaking in an interview, Bethesda Head of Publishing Pete Hines compared Redfall to other Bethesda games like The Elder Scrolls Online’s PC launch and Fallout 76, in the sense that both games didn’t have the greatest of launches, but they are going to keep working on it to turn it into a “good game.”

The Elder Scrolls Online’s PC launch was not flawless but we stuck with it. Now it’s like this insanely popular multiplatform. It’s the same with Fallout 76. Redfall is no different for us. Okay, we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game… and we’re going to keep working on it. We’re going to do 60fps. We’re going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there. – Pete Hines, Bethesda Head of Publishing

Hopefully, Bethesda and Arkane do pull of this feat for some sort of redemption for the game. The upside is, Microsoft has confirmed that Arkane Studios won’t be shut down even with Redfall’s less-than-stellar performance.

If you haven’t played Redfall, it’s not the worst game of all-time or anything, but it does have its issues. Go check out our review here where we state, “Redfall is far from being Arkane Studio’s finest hour; on the contrary, it’s a misfire that may tarnish the reputation of one of the most creative and exciting development outfits. Not even the cooperative mode or the use of vampires are enough to lift the game from the claws of mediocrity, and at this rate you’d better forget the bloodsucking and conform yourself with the dominance of the flesh-eating – at least, zombies have recently starred with some flair in a somewhat similar but far better horror shooter.”
