Bethesda Sneaks in Skyrim Nod in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered to Stay True to the Lore

While The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was a pleasant surprise drop this week (not that much of a surprise drop you’re a reader of MP1st given we reported on it dropping on April 22, a day before) the game isn’t a simple visual overhaul.
Bethesda and co-developer Virtuous went above and beyond what a remaster should be, as the studio also implemented combat improvements, quality-of-life improvements and apparently, even new secrets!
Oblivion Remastered Might Be Foreshadowing Skyrim Remastered
Take good look at that image (via sackchief). Notice anything? If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, it’s Skyrim’s tallest mountain called The Throat of the World. While most gamers already know that Oblivion and Skyrim are connected, the original release in 2006 did not have this little nugget, which means Bethesd intentionally added it in!
Is this the studio’s way of hinting that a Skyrim Remastered is on the way? Maybe, maybe not. Chances are, this is just a little Easter egg by the devs — a little wink, if you will. After seeing this, I assume that Bethesda have more Easter eggs hidden throughout the game. Of course, this could also be Bethesda just staying true to the game’s lore, as when Oblivion was released, Skyrim wasn’t a thing yet. Now that it is, the devs just stuck it there since it made sense.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released in November 2011 on consoles and PC, and is widely considered the most popular entry in the franchise. Initially released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, the game has seen re-releases on the PS4/Xbox One and even the PS5/Xbox Series X|S.
If Bethesda is working on a remaster of Skyrim, let’s hope it doesn’t take the studio 20 years to release it, or that would mean players will be able to play it in 2031, which is just crazy to think about. I assume fans would rather have Bethesda focus on The Elder Scrolls 6, which was announced in 2018. Since then, the latest development about the game is Xbox boss Phil Spencer saying it’s at least 5+ years away (this was in 2023), which puts it on release timeline in 2028.

Who wants to tell him Bethesda didn’t make this game, they just published it. I doubt they are going to do a remaster of Skyrim, especially so soon after the Anniversary Edition. We know Fallout 3 is next on the remaster block and I’d suspect we’d get a Morrowind remake before Skyrim.
It is just a reference in the same way you can see the imperial city and the red mountain from inside Skyrim, it doesn’t mean anything.
