Resident Evil 9 Teased by Capcom, as Resident Evil Games Sales Milestones Revealed
[summaraize]
While Capcom has already confirmed that Resident Evil 9 is in development, we haven’t heard anything about it for close to a year since it was confirmed. That might be changing soon, as Capcom seems to have slotted in a tease for the upcoming game in a new short video.
As part of the announcement that Resident Evil 4 (the remake) has now sold 10 million units, Capcom released a short video celebrating it with a not-so-subtle hint to Resdent Evil 9!
Resident Evil 4’s Sales Announcement Video Hides a Message in Plain Sight

感謝の気持ちを込めて記念映像をご用意いたしました。ぜひ音付きでお楽しみください。Attention all agents,
We’ve prepared a special video to express our gratitude to all of you, which we hope you’ll enjoy (with sound ON)!RE4 Dev Team pic.twitter.com/cKaS198UVY

Near the end of the video, you can see a signpost with some strategically placed wooden planks. Did you see it? If not, here’s a look:
Titling the image sideways gives us a the roman numeral for “9” (IX):
Is it a stretch? I don’t think so given the placement of the message in that order servers no purpose other than to give fans something to look forward to.
Alongside the Resident Evil 4 sales announcement, Capcom also revealed the sales figures of the other Resident Evil games, and RE4 ranks at the bottom of the pile.
Capcom has confirmed the sales numbers of:
- Resident Evil 7 – 15M units sold
- Resident Evil 2 (remake) – 15M units sold
- Resident Evil 3 (remake) – 10M units sold
- Resident Evil Village (RE8) – 11M units sold
- Resident Evil 4 (remake) – 10M units sold
The latest news from Resident Evil 9 we reported is a rumor that surfaced in June 2024. It mentions how Leon and Jill are the new protagonists for the game, and how it will feature open-world elements. Note that these are all rumors, and as such, should be taken with a huge bag of salt for now.
Hopefully this means that we’ll hear more about Resident Evil 9 this year, or perhaps the latest remake. Resident Evil 4 was released in 2023, and this means that it’s been two years since we got a new RE game, and chances are, it’ll be 2026 before we see anything out at retail.
