Blizzard Promises Each Overwatch 2 Event Will Have a Skin Players Can Earn by Playing Starting in Season 2

overwatch 2 update 3.47

With Overwatch 2’s transition to free-to-play, it’s understandable that Blizzard Entertainment opted for a Battle Pass monetization method that houses new heroes, emotes, character skins and more. However, this move from a retail priced game to F2P had the unfortunate effect of all event-themed skins now being sold in the in-game store.

Thankfully, Blizzard heard the qualms of gamers everywhere, as the studio announced that moving forward and starting in Season 2, they are changing progression so that players will be able to earn skins with each event just like the first game.

In Season 2, we’ve changed up our rewards a bit so that each event has a skin you can earn by playing, in addition to the other cosmetic rewards we already offer. We’re also going to continue our Twitch drops programs so that you can earn skins and in-game goodies by supporting your favorite creators. While we’re working on the long-term plans, we want upcoming seasons to feel more rewarding than Season 1.

As for Season 3, Blizzard mentioned that they are looking for a mix of both Battle Pass-related changes, as well as making rewards focused on gamers playing.

For Season 3 and beyond, we’re looking at a mix of Battle Pass changes, more interesting Challenges to pursue, and more exciting play-focused progression systems for you all to dig into. We’ll be able to talk about some of these changes soon, but other changes may take more time to lock-in.

This is definitely a step in the right direction! As an Overwatch 2 player myself, one of the draws for playing every time an event was kicked off was knowing that with enough games, I will be able to snag some event-exclusive character skins.

In other Overwatch 2 news, Blizzard announced a slew of free Highlight Intros that players will be able to snag! Read on here for more details regarding that.
