In a new developer story video, Bloober Team have discussed their vision for the development of the Silent Hill 2 remake, and their collaboration with original artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka to keep “the unique Silent Hill atmosphere intact” while “modernizing” many aspects of the overall gameplay. One of these said modernization is changing the perspective from the original’s third-person camera, to the remake’s over-the-shoulder perspective.

Mateusz Lenart, Creative Director and Lead Designer of Silent Hill 2 remake had this to say:

We want Silent Hill 2 to make the same strong impression today that the original game did 21 years ago. While we want to achieve the same end result, players’ expectations evolve over time, and certain things need to be modernized to have the same or similar effect. For example, that’s why we went with the over-the-shoulder camera, so we can immerse players into the game world as much as possible.

You can watch Lenart in the video below:

In addition to that, Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, states that the team’s goal is to recreate everything that made the original a classic, but in a new form.

To put it simply, our goal is to recreate everything [that] made the game a timeless classic, but give it a new form, which will draw players even deeper into the foggy streets of Silent Hill.
